Cosmetic Bonding

Close up of smiling mouth with teethBonding is the process of bonding composite material to your tooth surface. It is an option for restoring a tooth in small fixes. Using a ceramic porcelain material that is mixed with resin, this material is colored to blend in with your other teeth.

Cosmetic bonding is used to:

•  fill in spots where your teeth have chipped
•  fill in gaps between your two front teeth
•  even out your front teeth by adding length
•  hide discoloration due to fluorosis or stains from coffee or tea

Dr. Swanson adheres the material directly to the surface of your tooth, he then hardens the material with a bright ultraviolet light. We feel that cosmetic bonding is a great option, it will improve the look and shape of your tooth and is much lower in cost than other repair options.

Alternatives to Dental Bonding

With time, dentistry bonding may require replacement. It will wear down, and can become discolored, but should last you several years. Some patients may prefer solutions that are more permanent including dental crowns, bridges, and porcelain veneers. All these options should be discussed with our Seattle office. Dr. Swanson can help you decide what is the best option for you.

The cost of bonding is significantly less than larger processes such as veneers or crowns but does not offer the same strength and durability. The lifespan of dental bonding can be expected to be between 3-10 years.
